This research unit includes research on Womens Health and gender research in the fields of Medicine and Public Health. It focuses on women specific health issues as well as on the multifaceted impact of the social and cultural dimensions of gender on health and health care, and it addresses the reflective study of the category of gender in medicine. Research projects focus on sexual and reproductive health, on the interaction of maternal/familiy health and child health, on the impact of social factors for health and on health reporting. Gender-related analyses are conducted for a variety of health outcomes such as oral health, use of hearing aids, sleeping disorders, or communication in the medical setting. In the context of the SAPALDIA-study, gender-specific aspects of respiratory diseases are studied, particularly the role of reproductive and hormonal factors.
